Imagine Your Story with Colorful Blackout Poetry

Join Shannon on Zoom to explore using someone else’s printed words to discover your own creative voice. Grab some markers, crayons or colored pencils, and a page of newsprint or magazine print–and don’t forget to bring your imagination! Shannon’s taught her version of this literary form to high schoolers and adults–all are welcome! We’ll identify an “anchor word” and build a fun and funky poem from there! This is free, fine for all ages, and can be as simple and light or as intense in your creation as you like! Need more information? Want to try it on your own? Try this link: Blackout Poetry.

Write On! Daily Zoom Writing Group

Get in the writing habit by joining writers and authors around the country and the world! We write until 7:30am, touch base to troubleshoot and make sure everyone’s making good progress, then for those who can, we write until 8am and go about the rest of our day a little more inspired and accomplished as a result. Shannon is always available in the chat to help you get out of the corners you may inevitably paint yourself into! The Zoom information is posted in our Facebook Events listing daily.

Writers! The Highlights Foundation Offers a Free Online Class

As part of our commitment to help you continue learning and being entertained during the COVID-19 crisis, we are sharing a variety of virtual tours, live camera experiences at zoos, and online story times.

Have you ever wanted to learn about writing and creativity from teachers from the Highlights Foundation? They are now offering a free online educational opportunity featuring Sarah Aronson and Tara Lazar. Pop over to their site to see the previous videos and find out when they’ll next do a virtual get-together for greater interactivity. Special thanks to one of our Writing Club members, Jamie, for letting Shannon know about this great opportunity!

The Highlights Foundation also offers podcasts about writing, including this one with Ashley Hope Perez on Holistic Writer Care.
